Shades that will Help with Seasonal Depression

Yes you read the title correctly, shades that help with seasonal depression. How? It is simple, but before we get to the shades I want to take a moment to talk about seasonal depression.

What is SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) aka Seasonal Depression?

It is a type of depression that comes in the colder months.

Here are some common SAD symptoms:

  • Sleeping habits that are different from your usual routine

  • Lack of energy

  • Feeling hopeless or worthless

  • Drastic changes in your weight or appetite

  • Difficulty enjoying the fun things you used to love

How does this happen?

Because of the longer nights, our biological clock (circadian rhythm) is disrupted and overproduction of melatonin is released which is the hormone that helps regulate our sleep patterns. Less daylight means less Vitamin D which drops our serotonin levels. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter (brain chemical) that helps our sense of well-being and happiness. People dealing with SAD also produce less vitamin D.

THE SHADES THAT HELP WITH S.A.D

Somfy shades are the perfect brand to receive these motorized blackout shades. Somfy has spent the last 50 years assisting and making life easier for millions of users around the world. They create new solutions, reliable and sustainable, that improve life and well-being.

They gave me a wide selection of fabrics to choose from. The fabric textures had the perfect touch. I went with white motorized black-out shades that have an easy clean texture. They had someone from their team install it in less than an hour, from there, everything was literally done with a touch of a button.

The reason why I wanted to get motorized shades, is because they allowed tons of natural light in. The shades rolled up to the base allowing the maximum amount of natural sunlight to pour in. This is crucial during the winter months because of the limited sunlight we receive. Allowing the sunlight to pour into your space will provide you with Vitamin D which is essential to fight off seasonal depression.

The black-out shades are also perfect to avoid light population during the night. Sleep is important to our well-being. With a touch of a button, you are able to block the light from outside. Not to mention adding extra installation for the harsh winter cold.
