Creating a Space that will help you Heal

5 ways to create a home that heals.jpg

As some of you know earlier this month I fractured my ankle. The pain has been hard to handle and what is even harder is staying home for nearly two months not walking! I never knew how much of a challenge it would be to just rest. I felt like it was Life forcing me to stay still and take time to reflect. In the last couple of weeks, I learned how to appreciate my space and how to make it my healing sanctuary. I thought it was important for me to share the things I do that have been helping me during this recovery stage.

Let’s get into it!

1 - COMFORT

You will spend lots of time in your home and comfort is key for a speedy recovery. Having the right textures, accessories and injury recovery furniture is important for your healing process.

What I have been adding are lots and lots of PILLOWS! I am so thankful for being a designer of pillows and having access to it. This is the time to use every pillow you have. Since I have a foot injury I need to lift my foot as much as possible. During sleep, I like to use a firm large pillow and when I am sitting I use my Karama Pillows to lift my foot and support my back. Our pillows aren’t just stylish but they help heal you! ';)

I also use a seat cushion on my seat. Since I spend a lot of time sitting I need to focus on the right posture.

Comfort is also in the items I wear, I lived in this cozy hoodie I got from Target and leggins.

2- FUEL

Now that your environment is comfortable it is time to heal the inside. With a broken bone, your bone is literally working overtime to help heal you and create a new bone! This process takes weeks, months and sometimes even years. The best thing to help speed up the process is having the right diet.

In the morning I drink my golden tea. It has turmeric, black seeds, fennel seeds, cumin seeds, black seeds, lemon, and sesame seeds. This tea helps with the inflammation, adds calcium and acts as an antioxidant. I have also been increasing my protein intake.

Protein is essential for a healing process. I have been making smoothies and adding this collagen to help.  Increasing your body’s collagen reserves with hydrolyzed collagen can improve joint health, digestion, brain health, and gives you more youthful-looking skin, thicker, healthier hair, and stronger nails.

I have drinking this protein shake every day.

3- NATURE

You know how much I love being nature, so you can imagine how sad it could be staying home for weeks. But fear not! You can still bring nature in. I try my best to find a place in my home where the sun shines. When sunlight hits the skin it triggers the body's production of vitamin D. It is a crucial ingredient for overall health; it protects against inflammation, along with other benefits. Calcium is important for your bones but in order for it to go into effect you need Vitamin D. I try to sunbathe for 15 mins. This gives me the opportunity to just sit and meditate.

I also received a lot of flowers. Flowers have proven to reduce stress, help patients heal faster, and make your space look pretty! There is nothing more special than seeing a rose bloom :)

4- MINDFUL

Your home should be your happy haven to your recovery. Keeping a positive mindset actually helps speed your recovery! When your mind is happy the body becomes happy and works better to heal your injury.

I have spent time journaling more and reading self-motivational books. I also set the ambiance of the room by adding my Skylite, it makes my space seem magical. And since I am spending all my time at home this is the perfect time to binge-watch!

5-HOBBY

Hobbies you can do at home like cooking a new dish, drawing, DIYing, are all great ways to kill time and help make your home a fun place. Hobbies also help benefit your mental and physical health.
